Iraq Evacuation Plans Prepared

advertisement

Wayne Madsen: Our Pentagon sources report that plans for a massive and quick U.S. military evacuation from Iraq have been drawn up -- and that they borrow heavily from the U.S. evacuation experience in South Vietnam.

Pentagon and U.S. Central Command contingency planners, fully expecting a major insurgent offensive against U.S. forces in Iraq that will result in a mandatory U.S. military withdrawal, have already identified evacuation staging locations, including from the grounds of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad's Green Zone and Baghdad International Airport. Other evacuation points reportedly include major hotels and U.S. military bases in Iraq. It is planned that evacuees will be airlifted by plane and helicopters to U.S. Navy ships in the Gulf, Kuwait, Jordan, and Germany.

British forces in Basra have also drawn up evacuation plans.

With Anbar province already lost to the insurgents and much of the country in turmoil, the failure of the United States to evacuate in the face of an all-out insurgent offensive could result in a number of U.S. forces being taken prisoner by insurgent forces. And with the recent decision of Congress to permit torture of enemy prisoners, the fate of a large number of U.S. military and civilian prisoners in insurgent hands has Pentagon officials extremely worried.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Yes, I have seeded quite a lot about that. Just follow this path: death squads.

Finally! The only downside of this is that it will restore some of the public's faith in the Republican-turned-neo-Conservative party. Hopefully people will realize that the Bush administration did this as a last resort and only out of legitimate "defeat." We'll spin this one in our favor in the history textbooks, because Hussein was ousted, but the implications of this harsh and unjustified war will ring for decades through the international community.

Here's to bringing an end to a terrible war, hopefully saving the lives of hundreds of American soldiers and Iraqi civillians!

I would imagine its mostly just in case we are somehow forced to leave which seems more and more likely with current troop levels. I think if Democrats win the House and Senate this would become even more likely. But if Republicans retain control then we'll more than likely see more troops going into Iraq. If this really is the fight Bush says it is then he's going to have to put his money where his mouth is and go all in. But of course he has to wait until the elections to do anything.
