Testimony from a former U.S. Army Ranger

advertisement

Dahr Jamail: This 20 minute interview will change how you view the U.S. occupation of Iraq forever. I cannot possibly recommend this more highly. An Iraq war veteran tells of atrocities he and other fellow-soldiers committed reguarly while in Iraq. I have never seen this level of honesty from a U.S. soldier who directly participated in the slaughtering of Iraqis.

Excerpts:

"When we were doing the night raids in the houses, we would pull people out and have them all on their knees and zip-tied. We would ask the man of the house questions. If he didn't answer the way we liked, we would shoot his youngest kid in the head. We would keep going, this was our interrogation. He could be innocent. He could be just an average Joe trying to support his family. If he didn't give us a satisfactory answer, we'd start killing off his family until he told us something. If he didn't know anything, I guess he was SOL."

These are clearly war crimes committed by the mighty US Army. @!$%# you, Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld!

Watch video: Jessie Macbeth speaking out | Confessions of an Iraqi War Veteran |

Update (May, 24): According to a statement from the IVAW, Jesse MacBeth has no connection to this organisation what so ever, and there seem to be serious reasons to believe his video testimony is a fraud.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Keld, you have been deceived by a charlatan.

Re the photo on the wall, "... look at the uniform. Wrong beret flash, no unit insignia, and the sleeves are rolled up incorrectly..."

@!$%# you, lying impostor!

Great eyes mad, I guess its easy for those opposed to the war to jump opportunity they can get to push their agenda. Thanks for the keen observation.

I have not the faintest idea of how such a uniform should look like. I was a draft resister and served instead in Africa in a peace corps project for three years.

I think there are only two possibilities in this case: either the story is bogus, and that's bad enough — or it's true, and he should be prosecuted for war crimes.

I also served in Iraq and witnessed no such "atrocities". I was in an infantry unit and dealt with Iraqis on a daily basis on patrols and all I know is that our rules of engagement were so harsh we had to wait for several radio calls to go through before being allowed to defend ourselves. So what you are saying I am supposed to believe another pissed off veteran, who has an obvious vendetta against the government. I have seen plenty of Iraq war veterans on this site and for some reason no "viner" opposed to the war wants to listen to us. So now I as a veteran am supposed to sit and listen to another veteran tell a story so different from mine. Give Me a break by seeding this story you are doing a disservice to the US military and the thousands of brave men and women who have died and been wounded during this war. You are making it look like American soldiers are some blood thirsty devils hellbent on killing poor innocent Iraqi civilians. When in truth most are just men and women serving their country and doing their best for both America and Iraq.

Ballew, I don't believe that all US soldiers commit atrocities like this Ranger tells, but I have often heard similar stories from Iraqi friends in Mosul and Baghdad who have experienced these nightly raids and have had family members killed and humiliated for no reason at all. It does happen on a frequent basis but I guess the American media keeps quiet about it.

No Keld as I wrote before I am a soldier and I was in Iraq I know that was never part of and never heard of such operations. I have friends serving in Iraq now and they talk of all the improvement they have seen in the times they have spent there. Videos like the one you shows undermine the efforts of all the troops have served in Iraq.

You have every right to believe the war is unjust. But some of the crap I have seen you and some of the other anti-war newsviners write and seed have been totally disrespectful of our soldiers who have fought and continue to fight for the freedom of the Iraqi citizens.

I grantee most soldiers would love for the war in Iraq to be over so they could be home with their loved ones. But I also know for sure they don't want to leave until the job is done.

Ballew, are you telling me that I cannot believe my Iraqi friends? These are people I've known for a long time and they have sent me pictures of their raided homes, and from funerals they've attended burying family members killed by American soldiers. I think you only know one side of this war.

I'm saying you shouldn't believe your Iraqi friends, or your little faux Ranger on the video. As I said you are allowed to believe whatever you like. My point is you seem to seed mainly anti-american articles. This is your prerogative my friend I just think you should try to see all side of the story. I don't know your friends, I really don't know where or with whom their allegiance lies. Believe what you want, but I will go with what I saw first hand and that is Coalition forces working together to make a better Iraq.

I think you only know one side of this war.

While I was in Iraq, I treated the Iraqis as humanely as I would an American citizen. I spoke with many and all I talked talked about the horror they had while Saddam was in power and how happy they were to the Coalition forces gave them the opportunity at freedom. I know other Iraqis and insurgents have been causing the good Iraqis grief for the past three years. I know for sure no Good American soldier would cause such pain to an innocent.

Then you should start to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqis. At present a solid majority of them want you out!

No, I'm not anti-American. I just don't like the foreign politics of your present government.

At present? Nice trick Keld, the poll is from 2004.

Yes, the poll is from 2004. But do you really expect the general opinion of the Iraqi people to be any different today?

I don't think Keld was being malicious at all. If true that video is very informative and deserves to be shown. Granted it is not but you are making it seem like he was trying to spread slander especially when many of his seeds and articles are very informative. We have come to the conclusion that the video is a fake but there is no reason to attack anyone who seeds anti-american news. As long as its true, all news is important, whether or not you like it.

So tell me Keld when will you change the headline on this piece from "Testimony from a former U.S. Army Ranger" to "Testimony from a fraud, liar, and handy tool of the anti-war crowd?"

People have to understand, we are dealing with terrorists, and I personally think that Terrorists should be treated like terrorists. I do not care what means or torture, and violence you do to get the job done. I would have a problem with treating an innocent civilian like a terrorist, but you know what, sometimes mistakes are made, you just have to suck it up and roll with it.
